Quartara

The Quartara is a terracotta jar, used since the very beginnings of wine production with widely diffused ancestral origins in southern Italy. For centuries the quartara has been used to conserve both water and wine. The term quartara is also an ancient measure of capacity used for liquids including wine prior to the adoption of the decimal system to measure volumes of liquid. The Quartara wine we produce is made from 100% fiano grapes and undergoes a 3-4 month maceration process in quartara jars that have been interred underground, aged in barrels of different capacities for about 12 months.
